There’s Often a Bible Connection in the News

Sad news. The four Americans whose yacht was hijacked by Somali Pirates have been killed. What the media may not tell you is that the four were sailing around the world to distribute Bibles. Scott Adams, a graduate of Fuller Seminary, his wife Jean (a retired dentist) were spending their retirement years in a floating ministry. Jean Adams put it like this on their website: “Another aspect of our travels is friendship evangelism—that is finding homes for thousands of Bibles, which have been donated through grants and gifts, as we travel from place to place.”

The two were members of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California. Their priest said of them, “They are just great people. They just had this desire to make a difference in the world… Their mission was to deliver Bibles to the far-flung corners of the world.”

U.S. forces had been shadowing the hijacked yacht. Hearing gunfire, the American troops stormed the vessel to discover all four hostages shot by their captors. Two pirates were killed in the skirmish and 13 others were captured.
