Tennessee Trails: O1

Recently I picked up Johnny Molloy’s book, 60 Hikes within 60 Miles of Nashville, and I thought it’d be fun to tackle some of these trails with my grandson Elijah. We started with number 01 yesterday – the Anderson Road Fitness Trail, which runs in a loop for just over a mile around the tip of a peninsula in Percy Priest Lake. It’s an easy hike, and much of it skirts the lake with excellent views of the dam in the distance. We did it twice; plus we explored a lot of side trails, so our one-mile hike turned into three miles. We also spent a good half-hour looking for the remains of an old well, which was mentioned in the guidebook, and we found it. There wasn’t much wildlife except for a hawk and some squirrels. But it was a lovely, brisk, clear, and sunny December Saturday and we had some good talks. Back in the car, we opened the book to the page describing the first hike and and both signed and dated it. One down; fifty-nine to go.
