When He Opens the Scripture to Us

One of the benefits of going through a crisis, difficulty, or sorrow is discovering new Bible verses the Lord gives us to sustain us through such a period. I read about one women who has kept the same Bible for many years. In times of trial, the Lord has showed her just the right promise or Bible verse for every occasion. She always made a notation beside the verse in the margin of her Bible. She said as she thumbs through her Bible now it’s like traveling back through the years and recalling all the way the Lord has led her.

I’ve had many such experiences in my own life, and so have you. Bible reading isn’t just a matter of learning content, though we do want to study His Word for its priceless information. It’s a matter of the Lord Jesus taking His Scriptures and opening them to us as we walk with Him. As He opens His Word, our very hearts burn within us as they did with the two travelers on the Emmaus Road in Luke 24.

And He walks with us and He talks with us, and He tells us we are His own.
