My work has gone very slowly this week. In developing sermons for the pulpit, articles for magazines, or chapters for books, it’s simply impossible to rush. In everything else, I try to be a Rushin’. But in creative work, it takes the time that it takes. I can only hurry things so much. There aren’t many shortcuts. You have to give bread time to rise, the oven time to warm, and the loaf time to bake. I can’t waste time, but neither can I hurry the dough. It’s frustrating at times, but there it is. I have to adjust my attitude to the realities of plodding. Bit by bit, the work gets done.
“I can plod. I can persevere in any definite pursuit. To this I owe everything”—Missionary William Carey
